Days, opening times and prices

Choose a trail that suits you and check its condition and access rules. Each guided outing has its own duration, meeting point, price and inclusions. These cover closures, trail conditions, warnings and, in winter, snow.

  • Depends on trail conditions and official notices — Trails may be closed or subject to access restrictions · Check Sentieri Aperti, Sentieri Chiusi and any applicable municipal orders before setting off.

Choose your Maiella hike

Maiella has many starting points and routes, with different distances and climbs. Choose your trail first, then find the guide and arrangements that suit it.

The Orfento walk, daytime snowshoeing, night snowshoeing and cheese-making workshop are four separate experiences. Distances, equipment and meals listed for one do not automatically apply to the others.

For the Orfento walk without a transfer, meet at La Vallocchia car park in Caramanico Terme. If you book a pick-up, follow the location and arrangements shown on that booking.

Four checks before departure

Prepare for your chosen activity and its specific conditions.

  1. 1. Identify your chosen activity

Distinguish ordinary park walks, Orfento trips, snowshoeing and cheese-making. They have different distances, equipment and meeting points.

The valley name alone is not a meeting point: check the exact location.

  2. 2. Check whether the route is open

Check Sentieri Aperti and Sentieri Chiusi, then any municipal orders. A guide cannot take you onto a closed trail.

Check trail conditions before setting off.

  3. 3. Check winter dates and conditions

For either snowshoe trip, check the season, snow conditions and available dates, along with MeteoMont, MeteoAM and Allarmeteo Abruzzo.

A snowshoeing listing does not guarantee snow on your date.

  4. 4. Check participation requirements

Ask about the exact route, slopes, obstacles and assistance. The cheese-making experience is unsuitable for wheelchair users.

Check the route details before booking.

Plan a safe outing

Before setting off, check Sentieri Aperti and Sentieri Chiusi for trail conditions and any municipal orders. Use MeteoAM for forecasts and alerts, MeteoMont for mountain and snow conditions, and Allarmeteo Abruzzo for regional bulletins.

Conditions depend on the chosen trail. Ask the provider about surfaces, slopes, steps, obstacles and assistance. The Orfento trip is unsuitable for people with reduced mobility, wheelchair users or people with visual impairments; the cheese-making workshop is unsuitable for wheelchair users.

Location and access

📍 Maiella National Park — starting point depends on the walk booked

By car

Your starting point depends on the trail. Access to Orfento is possible through Caramanico Terme, Decontra, S. Nicolao and Passo del Blockhaus. Guided walks may use a different meeting point or pick-up: follow your confirmation.

Stationnement

La Vallocchia car park serves the Orfento departure without a transfer. The night outing starts at the Maielletta ski-area car park. For other walks, use the meeting point on your booking.

Accessibility

Accessibility depends on the exact trail: ask about surfaces, gradients, steps, obstacles and assistance. The Orfento trip is unsuitable for people with reduced mobility, wheelchair users or people with visual impairments; the cheese-making workshop is unsuitable for wheelchair users.

Conseils pour la visite

  1. Check trail access

Consult Sentieri Aperti, Sentieri Chiusi and any applicable municipal ordinances.

  2. Check the weather

Check MeteoAM, MeteoMont and Allarmeteo Abruzzo before setting off.

  3. Read your booking details

For Orfento, the meeting point and transport arrangements depend on your chosen departure.

  4. Explain your access requirements

Accessibility depends on your chosen trail and activity.

Mistakes to avoid

Applying one route’s figures to every walk

The park’s trails offer many different outings. Starting point, distance and ascent depend on the route.

Confusing the different Orfento access points

The park has several access points for the Orfento Valley. Your guided walk may use another meeting point or include transport: check your booking details.

Booking snowshoeing without checking snow conditions

Daytime and night outings are seasonal. Check snow conditions, available slots and opening arrangements in the booking calendar and official notices.

Presenting the workshop as a simple hike

The separate cheese-making experience includes a workshop and meal. It is unsuitable for wheelchair users.
